Low-Tox Activewear

What "low-tox" actually means...

"Low-tox" gets used a lot in this industry, and rarely explained. Here's what it means to us — and what actually backs it up.

Low-tox doesn't mean chemical-free. Nothing is, not really. It means we test, certify, and choose every fabric on purpose, instead of leaving it to chance.

Here's what that looks like at OHLA ACTIVE:

Our bamboo viscose and activewear fabric are OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 tested — an independent test for harmful substances, against strict limits.

Our organic cotton is OCS-certified, tracked from fibre to finished garment.

Our recycled nylon is REPREVE®, OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 tested, and GRS-certified — independently tested for PFAS, with none detected.

Most activewear also requires a small percentage of elastane (spandex) for stretch and recovery. Even when a fabric contains only around 5% elastane, we can't honestly call the garment plastic-free or non-toxic simply because the majority of the fabric is another fibre. This is something we're continuing to research as we look for better stretch-fibre alternatives.

We explain exactly what each of these covers, and what it doesn't, on our Certifications page.

Why it matters

Activewear sits close to your skin, often for hours, often while you're warm and moving. That's exactly why we chose fabrics we could actually explain to you, not just market to you.

What we won't say

We won't call anything "non-toxic." We did... but not anymore. That's not a claim anyone can fully prove, for any product. What we can tell you, honestly, is what's been tested, and by which standard — and we'll keep telling you, fabric by fabric.
